Strawbridge
Illustrator & Graphic Designer
Hello, My name is Kai Strawbridge and I am the artist and designer behind Staring Hare Art. Art has been a point of interest all my life, and while it started with traditional art and a focus on illustration, I eventually branched into digital art using Procreate and then into the world of Graphic Design.
Aside from the multitude of art electives growing up, I got my education in Graphic Design through Sessions College of Professional Design's Certification program. A program which not only expanded my design knowledge but also provided me with more tools to accomplish a wider variety of projects.
Depending on the needs of the project, I have the ability to work in platforms such as:
-
Adobe Illustrator
-
Adobe Photoshop
-
Adobe Indesign
-
Procreate
As well as the ability to work with traditional illustration methods, such as ink and paper.

My Story
My journey as an artist has been a lifelong one. While the answer to “what do you want to be when you grow up?” was riddled with variety, my most consistent answer was Artist. It’s always been a hobby, an outlet, and a reminder of home. My mom is a painter and an art teacher, my father has done a variety of jobs, but always has something creative一from leather-working to web design一on the side. The arts have played a consistent role throughout my life.
As a kid I was constantly moving from place to place, school to school. Always the new kid, and thankfully the art kid. It provided an outlet, a sense of security. Something I bury myself inside and get lost in. As a child with a vivid imagination art allowed the stories and creations of my mind to occupy a small part of the world. My art was and is heavily inspired by the fantastical worlds of the books I've read and the wonder of the different woodlands of which I spent my childhood.
When I got to my teenage years I decided, casually, to do something with my art and started an instagram with a small commissions business on the side. My commissions were mostly to family and friends, but their support has pushed me continually forward. In the later years of High School I enrolled in the beginner art elective. My teacher saw potential in me and fought to push me ahead. As a result, in my senior year I was taking AP art, Art 3, and Ceramics. In my spare time I was also Graphic Designer for my High School's Theatre Department, a club I was in, and working on the occasional mural or art piece for my church. It was designing for those clubs, as well as a web design assignment for my English class which really sparked my interest in graphic design specifically.
After High School I didn’t quite know what or where to go from there, but a close family friend of mine asked if I would apply to work at the summer camp I’d grown up at. I got the job as a barista there and fell in love all over again with the rolling woodlands of the Berkshires. I had been working and living at the camp for a couple years, which enabled me in March of 2024 to enroll in Sessions College for Professional Design. The program expanded my design knowledge as well as taught me how to utilize adobe software. In November of the same year I obtained my Professional Certificate of Graphic Design.
Now I have moved on from the camp having moved out on my own. Currently I am based out of Great Barrington Massachusetts where I work as a full time Barista at a local coffee shop and spend my ample free time creating art both for myself and others. Life continually inspires me as it grows through seasons, I feel my art reflects that.
Why do I make art? I believe art is creation, it draws us closer to our source, to what makes us human. Art allows us to bring new into the world, to communicate in a tangible way the things we feel deep inside ourselves. It is a channel to express the limits of our creativity and a reflection of ourself.
